U.S. BUSINESS HALL OF FAME

Local businessperson from UPS wins top award from pool of more than 138,000 volunteers.

Boston, MA - Junior Achievement of Eastern Massachusetts announced that Chip Barnes has been chosen from more than 138,000 U.S. volunteers to win the organizations's highest award for volunteerism, The Gold Leadership Award.  Mr. Barnes was honored on March 5th at an Awards Luncheon in Tampa, Florida as part of a pre-celebration activity for the annual U.S. Business Hall of Fame.

"The Eastern Massachusetts business community is wonderful to us," said Dave Eustis, President of Junior Achievement of Eastern Massachusetts.  “And Chip Barnes is a remarkable example of that spirit of generosity. In a very real way, he directly contributes to the hopes and dreams of our local children."

Mr. Barnes Chip Barnes is a Member of the Junior Achievement of Eastern Massachusetts Board of Directors the Executive Committee for Junior Achievement.  Mr. Barnes led the local UPS employees to deliver over 150 hours of JA programming in the classroom, and host several Job Shadow Day events.  UPS employees also shared their professional expertise and personal career path experiences with high school students in the JA Academy student-run company Board Meetings at their facilities.  In addition, Mr. Barnes has consistently supported fundraising events for Junior Achievement throughout the year.

There are nine Gold Leadership Award winners this year.  The awards are based on each volunteer’s level of participation and leadership in Junior Achievement operations.

The Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame has honored the nation’s most distinguished business men and women for outstanding contributions to free enterprise and to society since 1975. Junior Achievement also uses the event to honor its top volunteers of the year.
